He died during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in World War II. ==Biography== Born in Walled Lake, Michigan, Douglas Fox graduated from the United States Naval Academy on 3 June 1926. After service in various ships and shore stations, he was given command of the newly commissioned destroyer ''Barton'' (DD-599) on 29 May 1942. Lieutenant Commander Fox went down with his ship when she was torpedoed and sunk in the naval Battle of Guadalcanal on 13 November 1942. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.
